Intern Vacancies/Gap year
Required from 1st October 2019 to 31st August 2020

Want to make a difference with your life? Want to be equipped to work with young people in the future, whilst making an impact today? Taking a gap year? We are looking for up to eight people to join our team as interns in September 2019 in either Petersfield or Alton.
You will be someone who has a heart to see young people grow and be at their best, be good with people and preferably have some experience of working with teenagers. You will ideally be aged 18-25, and have at least 5 GCSEs grade C or above.
Option 1: As you volunteer for a year at the Kings Arms we will invest in training and supporting you to complete a diploma in Youth Work Practice. This is a unique opportunity to obtain a level 3 qualification whilst gaining work experience and influencing other young people’s lives. As part of the internship program, you will develop your strengths and also have the opportunity to gain experience behind the scenes and get involved in other areas of the centre ie marketing, admin, finance, IT.
To join the study programme you will need to demonstrate:
• Current experience in informal or community education
• An ability to engage and work with young people and adults
• A readiness to reflect on your experiences and learning
• A commitment to others and to work for equal opportunities and justice for all
• An ability to manage different aspects of your life and to work on your own initiative
• An ability to communicate with others both face-to-face and in writing.
Your programme will include:
A monthly supervision session and assessment reports to your college
A minimum of 15 hours face to face work per week
A full understanding of the behind the scenes work in a youth centre – to include administration, record keeping, returns, and publicity
Opportunities to use your current skill set and develop others
Time for study and essay writing
Attendance at the weekly team meeting
Organising of 5 visits to youth projects
On the job training and day courses as and when appropriate.
Option 2: If you feel that you would be interested to be a part of what goes on at Kings Arms but the above studying option isn’t right for you, then please come and talk to us. There is the option to get involved in our open access project and have the opportunity to lead sessions and work in a great team of volunteers and staff. We are able to be flexible around your individual needs to help you get the best out of your year. You would be provided with support and a personal mentor and possible support with accommodation and expenses.
• 35 hours per week
• Expected to work 5 days per week and 2-3 evenings per week
• 1st October 2019 - 31st August 2020
• Is subject to a satisfactory DBS check and two references.
